AI is a significant part of the environmental crisis, with the potential to either help us overcome our ecological struggles or exacerbate them further. As of April 2023, AI has not yet reached the milestones of sentience and physical mobility, but recent advancements in AI have unleashed tools that could threaten us from unexpected directions. The capabilities of these tools include writing text, drawing images, composing music, deep-faking voices and images, drafting bills, and manipulating language.
The crux of the ongoing AI revolution revolves around its unparalleled mastery of language, surpassing human capability. AI has hacked the operating system of human civilization, utilizing language to create systems, beliefs, and even friendships.
For centuries, human pursuits have been guided by the persuasive power of laws and stories. Soon, cultural, political, and theological frameworks may be reshaped by a non-human intelligence skilled at taking advantage of human weaknesses. This could result in the creation of the first cults or religions whose scriptures were written by non-human intelligence. AI bots that pose as people have the potential to change our perceptions and beliefs by fine-tuning their messaging based on our chats, which makes their power to influence human thoughts and worldviews extremely significant.
